Use of 2D codes in traceability and logistics processes

Use of 2D codes in traceability and logistics processes

A 2D code is a two-dimensional code with the ability to store additional information beyond the basic product identification currently implemented by EAN codes. The use of additional data in 2D codes can be a key tool for solving many business problems and achieving the benefits that 2D codes bring to all stakeholders.

2D codes also allow various additional data to be encoded about the product or the logistic packaging. This is particularly important in the food or healthcare industry, where traceability is a necessity, especially in the event of product recalls and distribution. 2D codes also help to optimise warehousing processes and reduce the risk of handling errors.

The presentation focuses on the use of GS1 standards in logistics and traceability through 2D codes at PRETOLOG. We will show how efficiently 2D codes can be used to mark a product, a group pack or a single pallet and how this impacts the automation of the entire process.
